Tiến Lên in a minute
Tiến Lên, often called Thirteen in English, is a Vietnamese climbing and shedding card game for four players. Each player gets 13 cards from a 52-card deck, and the first to empty their hand wins.
- The player holding the 3♠ opens the first game, and the opening play must include it.
- Beat the table with the same kind of play and the same number of cards, ranked higher, or pass.
- Once you pass, you sit out the rest of that trick unless you can come back in with a chop.
- When everyone else passes, the last player leads anything they like. The first to play every card wins.
3 is the lowest card and 2 is the highest. Hearts are the top suit, then diamonds, clubs and spades. You can play singles, pairs, triples, four of a kind, sequences and double sequences, and there are no five-card poker hands. The full rules cover every play, and the table only accepts legal plays, so you can also learn as you go.
Chops beat 2s
Twos are the strongest rank, but they aren't safe. A chop can beat 2s even though it is a different kind of play. At our tables:
- Four of a kind beats a single 2.
- A double sequence of three pairs beats a single 2.
- A double sequence of four pairs beats a pair of 2s.
- A double sequence of five pairs beats three 2s.

Before you play
Can I play Tiến Lên with friends?
Yes. Start a private game and send the invite link to your friends. Optional video chat can stay beside the table while you play.
Can I practise against AI?
Yes. Practice mode fills the other three seats with computer players, so you can play without waiting for a group.
Is Tiến Lên the same as Big Two?
No. Both are climbing games, but Tiến Lên opens with the 3♠, ranks hearts highest, uses sequences, double sequences and chops, and has no five-card poker hands.
Can a 2 be beaten?
Yes, with a chop. Four of a kind or a double sequence of three pairs beats a single 2, and longer double sequences beat a pair or three 2s.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. Tiến Lên runs in a modern browser on your phone or computer. You pick a display name and start, with nothing to install or sign up for.
What if I lose my connection?
Open the game again in the same browser and you get your seat back. An AI player keeps your seat going while you are away.
