Would You Rather in a minute
Would You Rather is the conversation game where someone offers two options, like "Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible?", and everyone has to pick one. There is no right answer and usually no winner. The fun is the debate that starts when the group splits.
How to play Would You Rather
Two people are enough, and there is no upper limit. It works at the dinner table, on a long car journey or anywhere you have a few minutes.
- Ask a question. The first player asks "Would you rather…" and gives two options. Both should be tempting, or both a little awkward, so the choice is hard.
- Everyone picks one. No fence-sitting. Each player has to choose one of the two options, even if they like neither.
- Explain your choice. Go around the group and give your reason. Others can try to change your mind.
- Pass the turn. The next player asks a new question. Keep going until you run out of ideas or it is time for something else.
A version with points
Most people play without a score. If your group likes a winner, the asker can guess which option most people will pick and earn a point for a correct guess. House rules vary, so agree before the first question.

Playing Would You Rather online
Online, nobody can wait to see what their friends pick first. Each question appears on every phone with option A and option B. You tap one and it locks straight away. When everyone has chosen, or the 90-second timer runs out, the room reveals every player's pick together and shows whether A or B took the room, or whether it was a perfect split.
Rooms take 2 to 8 players. The host chooses 5, 10 or 15 rounds and a category of Everyday, Adventure, Silly or Food, or a mix of all four, then taps Next Choice when the debate winds down. There is no score to chase. After each reveal, players can leave a short voice message to explain their pick.
If you are together, argue it out in person. If you are apart, turn on the built-in video call, or keep your usual FaceTime or Zoom call running and share the room link.
Tips and house rules
- Make both options equally good or equally strange. A question with an obvious answer ends the debate before it starts.
- Ask a follow-up question to whoever is alone on their side. Lone picks often have the best reasons.
- For younger players, try animals, food and superpowers, like "Would you rather have a pet dragon or a pet unicorn?".
- Let the person who picked the less popular option ask the next question.
- In a big group, split the room so each side physically moves to one wall and makes its case.
- On a car trip, let each person ask three questions in a row before passing the turn on.
