Never Have I Ever in a minute
Never Have I Ever is the party game where players take turns saying something they have never done, like "Never have I ever broken a bone", and everyone who has done it owns up. It needs nothing but a group of friends. Each answer tends to come with a story, and the stories are why people keep playing.
How to play Never Have I Ever
You need three or more players. Sit in a circle and decide who goes first. The most common family version uses fingers to keep track.
- Hold up ten fingers. Everyone starts with both hands up and all ten fingers showing.
- Make a statement. The first player says "Never have I ever…" and finishes it with something they have truly never done.
- Own up if you have. Anyone who has done it puts one finger down. Players who have not done it keep their fingers up.
- Share the story. If someone puts a finger down, the group can ask what happened. Nobody has to tell more than they want to.
- Go around the circle. The next player makes a statement. The last person with fingers still up wins, or you simply stop when the group is ready for something else.
Other ways to keep track
- Use sweets, coins or counters instead of fingers and hand one in each time you have done it.
- Play for stories only, with no fingers and no winner. Anyone who has done it raises a hand.
- Give a point to the person who made the statement for each player who has done it, which rewards clever guesses about the group.

Playing Never Have I Ever online
Online, the room reads the statements so nobody has to think one up on the spot. Each statement appears on every phone, and you tap I have or Never. Your answer locks with one tap and stays private until everyone has answered or the 90-second timer runs out. Then the room reveals both groups together, so nobody is the first to admit it.
Rooms take 2 to 8 players. The host picks 5, 10 or 15 prompts and a category of Everyday, Adventures, Creativity or Silly, or a mix of all four, then taps Next Prompt when the stories are done. The online game keeps no fingers and no score. After each reveal, players can leave a short voice message to tell their story.
If you are together, swap the stories out loud. If you are apart, turn on the built-in video call, or keep your usual FaceTime or Zoom call running and share the room link.
Tips and house rules
- Pick statements most people have done, like "Never have I ever fallen asleep in a film". They get more fingers down and more stories.
- Agree that anyone can skip telling a story. Owning up is enough.
- Aim statements at the whole group rather than one person, so nobody feels singled out.
- For younger players, stick to everyday things like food, school, pets and holidays.
- In a big group, set a story limit of one minute so every round keeps moving.
- If you have more than eight people, play in pairs and answer for your team.
