True or False in a minute

True or False is a quiz game built on one question. Someone reads a statement, like "sound travels faster through water than through air", and every player decides whether it is true or false. Then the answer comes out and the arguing starts. There are only two choices, so a lucky guess can beat an expert, which keeps everyone in the game.

How to play True or False

At a table you need one person to read the statements and at least two players. The reader can play too if somebody else prepared the list. Paper and a pen for each player keep answers honest.

  1. Prepare the statements. The quizmaster writes a list of facts, some true and some false, with a short explanation for each answer.
  2. Read one out loud. Read the statement twice so nobody mishears it. No hints, and no faces that give the answer away.
  3. Everyone answers in secret. Players write T or F, or hold up a hidden card, so nobody can copy a neighbour.
  4. Reveal and explain. Read the answer and the reason behind it. Everyone who got it right scores a point.
  5. Play the agreed number of rounds. The player with the most points at the end wins. House rules vary on ties, and many groups play one sudden-death statement to settle them.

Playing True or False online

Online, nobody has to be the quizmaster. The room shows the same statement on every phone, and each player taps True or False. Answers stay private and cannot be changed once locked in. The reveal happens as soon as everyone has answered, or when the 90-second timer runs out. Anyone who did not answer in time is skipped for that round and scores nothing.

The reveal shows the correct answer, a short explanation and how everyone voted. Each right answer is worth a point, and the host moves the room on to the next statement. A match lasts 5, 10 or 15 rounds for 2 to 8 players, with statements from science, nature, around the world, everyday knowledge or a mix of all four. Friends who arrive late join at the next round.

Sitting together, you can argue about each reveal out loud. Apart, turn on the video call built into the room or keep your own FaceTime or Zoom call going and share the room link.

Tips and house rules

  • When you write your own list, mix in false statements that sound believable. A quiz where every odd fact turns out true gets easy fast.
  • Ask players to say why they chose their answer before the reveal. The reasoning is often funnier than the result.
  • For younger players, pick one topic they know well, like animals, and keep the statements short.
  • Try a confidence round where players can bet two points on one statement they feel sure about.
  • In a big group, play in teams that agree on one answer per statement.
  • Read the explanation every time. People remember the strange facts long after the score.

True or False FAQ

How do you play True or False?

Someone reads a statement and every player decides privately whether it is true or false. After the reveal, each correct answer scores a point, and the highest score after the last round wins.

How many people can play?

At a table, any number can play as long as someone reads the statements. The online room takes 2 to 8 players and reads them for you.

Is True or False good for kids?

Yes. The statements in the online room are written for all ages, and the two-choice format means younger players can win rounds against adults.

What happens if you don't answer in time?

In the online room you have 90 seconds. If the timer runs out before you tap an answer, you are skipped for that statement and score no point.

Can you play True or False on Zoom or FaceTime?

Yes. Keep your call running and share the room link, or use the room's own video call. Everyone answers on their own screen, so nobody can peek.

Is it free to play True or False online?

Yes. The room is free in any browser, with no app to download and no account to create.
